COLONEL NIGEL KNOCKER OBE, WO, WkHM

Nigel joined the Army in 1949 and served in The Life Guards, The Royal Sussex Regiment which then became the Queen’s Regiment. He graduated from the Army Staff College, Camberley in 1963. Apart from UK he served in Eqypt, Australia, Germany, Northern Ireland, Korea, Gibraltar, North Africa, Aden, the Sultanate of Oman. He was ADC to General Sr Lashmar Whistler who became C-in C HQ Northern Army Group. During this time, he was seconded as ADC to HM Queen Juliana of the Netherlands who was Colonel in Chief of the Royal Sussex Regiment. His service in Oman was initially as CO of The Desert Regiment from 1971 to 1973 during the Dhofar War. From 1977 to 1981 he was Defence Attaché in the British Embassy Muscat. From 1982 to 1985 he was on the staff of General Sir Timothy Creasey who was the Chief of Defence Staff in HQ SAF. He was chairman of the SAF Association from 1987 to 2018, and a Trustee of the AOS until being appointed as a vice president in 2018. On leaving the Army he became County Emergency Planning Officer in Wiltshire. This also involved a contract with the EU to study civil emergencies in Europe below central government level. Nigel is married to Angela and has two married children.
